A man was shot and killed Saturday night after police chased him down a residential street in Oakland, police said.
A man who was shot while fleeing police was found dead in his car in the 800 block of West 18th Street, Oakland police said in a statement.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police did not release details of the man’s condition.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting.
Police responded to a call of shots fired at 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of West 19th Street and W. 17th Street in Oakland’s Oakland Park neighborhood.
The caller told police that the man had fled from officers and was later found in the 1800 block of W. 19th St., where he had a gun in his waistband, police Lt.
Robert Turner said.
The call also said that the suspect’s vehicle was blocking traffic on the street and that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Oakland.
The car was later recovered.
The Oakland Police Department has released surveillance video of the car in question.
Officers were seen chasing the suspect, who fled from them on West 19st Street, and officers fired a round that hit the suspect in the chest, Turner said in the statement.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
